Replace siding by working from the bottom up you might need a helper here. The courses should overlap by at least 1 in. Starting at one end of the damaged piece push the end of the zip siding removal tool up under the siding until you feel it hook the bottom lip. Holes dents and other damage to siding can usually be fixed quickly and inexpensively.

Above the bottom edge. Nail straight down on the replacement board in order to hit studs. Attach the siding with 10d galvanized box nails driven into the overlap at least 1 2 in. The diy method will most often save you money but it can take longer to complete.

Diy or siding contractor. These small repairs can add years to the life of the siding. Take the replacement board fit it in place image 2 and nail it in with a hammer using galvanized nails. If you are an experienced diyer and you have replaced old siding with new siding then you may be both competent and confident enough to take this on yourself.

Slide the zip tool along the bottom edge to release the vinyl siding from the piece below it. A new generation of wood fillers hardeners and epoxies fill holes and firm up soft spots so they are as strong as the original wood. Start at the bottom of the piece that is being replaced and insert a wooden shim between the pieces of siding as the zip tool slides along the siding. This will take much longer than a weekend.

Repeat the procedure for the top of the damaged siding. Fill in the nail holes. 15 minute vinyl siding repair with a zip tool.
