You can only have a roof out to i believe 6 tiles from a wall otherwise it ll collapse.
It is relatively knows that a wall supports the roof up to maximally 6 tiles away.
You could make a 12 wide room all the way across the map and it would work fine.
With the vanilla game you have to use large walls to support roof tiles.
